SCREAM THERAPY (2023) Review by Steve Kirkham

Miracle Media. Digital. 6th April
Avery (Harley Bronwyn) is devastated when she breaks up with her boyfriend of seven years, when the subject of marriage is brought up. To get over things she heads to an AirBnB in the desert with her friends Nora (Claire Dellamar), Dylan (Mandie Cheung), Marybeth (Geri Courtney-Austein) and Gillian (Rochelle Anderson), planning on getting drunk, maybe do some drugs and take part in ‘scream therapy’ to help Avery get over the break-up.
But their get away is interrupted when they are confronted one night by ‘brothers’ Jeremiah (Brian Flaccus) and Zachariah (Skyler Bible) who tie the girls up – they are from a cult of incels, who have been taught that when they reach they reach the age of 35 they must sacrifice a female in order to have sex! Things go from bad to worse, when Zachariah ends up dead when he accidentally stabs himself with them sacrificial knife and for some reason becomes a demon. The ladies are then left with a choice – in order to save themselves they must offer five sacrifices or have their souls ripped from their bodies!
This comedy horror was directed and written by Cassie Keet, and whilst it kind of works due to the chemistry of the cast, it is a bit hit and miss and the girls do get a touch annoying at times. That being said it did make me laugh on occasion, with the Nicolas Cage obsessed demon especially amusing.
